Taus Makhacheva was born in Moscow, Russia in 1983. She holds BA in Fine Art from Goldsmiths College, University of London, UK (2007) and MA from Royal College of Art, London, UK (2013). She is a graduate of the Institute of Contemporary Art, Moscow (2009). She lives and works in Moscow. Taus is the winner of the Innovation state prize in contemporary art (“New Generation” nomination, 2012) amon other awards. Super Taus is the winner of the Kandinsky Prize (“The Young artist. Project of the Year” nomination, 2015). Taus Makhacheva grew up in Moscow, while her background is in Dagestan, in the Caucasian part of Russia, it this this personal connection that is often the starting point for her work, exploring a complex relationship between history, politics of memory and contemporary life.
